Tomatin was established in an idyllic setting in 1897. However, there was no local labor available because the inhabitants, shepherds and livestock breeders, were dispersed across the vast territory. The company then began a construction project to house its employees. Since then, the distillery has been at the heart of the community, while the community has been at the heart of the distillery. This legacy has been carried on: Tomatin is one of the few distilleries that still provides housing for its employees today. To honor this tradition, the term "Legacy" - literally "heritage" - was coined. It is bottled at 43% ABV after being aged in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and new woods.
