Samuel Gawith Balkan Flake: review
Samuel Gawith Balkan Flake is a Virginia and Latakia blend of Flake cut.
The label “Balkan” might suggest the presence of Oriental tobaccos, which are actually absent.
Like all Samuel Gawiths, it is very moist upon opening and has a dark color due to the presence of Latakia and multiple varieties of Virginia. Precisely because of the high degree of moisture, we recommend allowing it to dry slightly, as the aromatic notes will benefit.
In percentage, Virginia is more present than Latakia, but the latter is preponderant from the beginning to the end of the smoke, with Virginia playing a supporting role.
Another tip to ensure a flawless smoke is to avoid crumbling the flakes, but to fold them inside in the stove. Otherwise, you risk losing the remarkable aromatic evolution of this blend.
As with all flakes, smoking it in a large, thick-walled stove, such as in a Shape Pot, for example, would be ideal.
Ultimately, we recommend Balkan Flake to all those who love Latakia and wish to appreciate its different nuances.
