Mac Baren Royal Twist: review
The Mac Baren Royal Twist is a very special blend, primarily because of its being a limited edition, by virtue of the Perique coming from a 2016 batch.
The other particularity is the cut, namely the "curly cut" (also called "rope cut”). It consists of a set of rolled tobaccos, forming a sort of braid from which discs are cut.
Normally this cut is made only with 2 tobaccos, but in this case we have 3.
Aromatically, the Perique makes this blend very flavorful and spicy, while the excellent Golden Virginia adds some citrusy and slightly honeyed notes.
This is enhanced by Dark Fired Kentucky, which imparts woody and smoky aromas, something I personally appreciate very much.
Given the cut, it is ideal to smoke it in small discs and insert them into the stove. Handling in smoke is not the smoothest, but this cut allows you to keep the temperature of the brazier low, highlighting the aromatic notes of Virginia and Perique.
This does not detract from the fact that it can be crumbled down to the Ribbon cut, but, being a 100g tin, we recommend smoking it as it is intended, perhaps in a large stove.
