Robert McConnell Pure Latakia: review
As the name suggests, this is a pure Latakia that, until 2015, was of Syrian origin, only to be replaced with Cypriot.
This tobacco has dual uses.
You can use it to reinforce blends that you feel are not very “latakia-like” or that need more structure.
Or, you can experiment with personal blends, playing with 1-2 other single-origins.
This does not detract from the fact that it can be smoked pure, either for “educational experience” or to savor its typical aromatic notes.
We recommend trying it in a meerschaum pipe, a meerschaum-cap Calabash, or a clay Calabash.
Only with these 3 tobacco pipes will you be able to fully appreciate its typical earthy and smoky notes.
In Italy it is the only single-origin Latakia; in the past there was also Torben Danske and Weallauer. The latter, now on the market in Switzerland, is reported to be Syrian tobacco, but it is unlikely to actually be so and is most likely of Cypriot origin.
