Documented since the end of the eighteenth century and coming from Hungary, meerschaum pipes have long been an exclusive of Austrian companies; in the second half of the nineteenth century there were over two hundred companies that arose around the city of Vienna engaged in the processing of meerschaum pipes.
Distinguished by the pure white of the deposits in Turkey (the only ones in the world), the most sought-after finishes feature hand-carved figurative style workings, but even the smooth ones with a clear mouthpiece are extremely elegant. Compared to briar pipes, it is a totally different material, from which even the experience of the smoke appears very special, particularly fresh and dry, and they know how to exert a profound, almost mystical charm due to the shine of the hydrated magnesium silicate.
Meerschaum Pipe: The Delicacy and Strength of "Sea Foam"
Meerschaum pipes have been documented since the late 18th century. Their major development, however, is traced back to Hungary, where meerschaum pipes were long an exclusive product of Austrian companies. This type of sea foam pipe became so successful that by the second half of the 19th century, there were over two hundred companies around the city of Vienna dedicated to the production of meerschaum pipes.
Let Yourself Be Enchanted by an Exotic Material
This type of pipe is easily recognizable: it is distinguished by its pure white color, which comes mostly from deposits in Turkey (the only ones in the world). This model of sea foam pipe stands out thanks to its more refined finishes featuring hand-carved figurative designs, but even the smooth ones with a light stem are extremely elegant.
Try a New Smoking Experience and Try This New Material
Choose a type of material different from the usual. Despite the high quality of briar pipes, meerschaum is a completely different material. It is, in fact, a hydrated magnesium phyllosilicate, a material that can be found floating on the clearest waters but has been chosen for its ability to provide a smoking experience different from the usual. Thanks to its composition, the smoking experience appears completely unique, particularly fresh and dry.
The meerschaum allows you to taste and perceive the intrinsic characteristics of the tobaccos in their entirety, without any aromatic influence from the pipe itself, unlike briar, which affects the smoking experience.
