Kilkerran
Discover Kilkerran whisky and the story that led to its creation
Kilkerran is a Campbeltown distillery founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, son of Archibald Mitchell, founder of nearby Springbank. The years preceding the opening of this distillery saw the collaboration of the two Mitchell brothers until, for private reasons, the two decided to dissolve the commercial collaboration and William decided to open his own business by inaugurating the Glengyle distillery.§
Over the last century the distillery has undergone a series of openings, failed closures and new openings until in 2000 Mitchell Glengyle Limited, led by Hedley Wright (Springbank) and great-grandson of William Mitchell, announced the purchase of the old Glengyle buildings , reuniting the distillery with the family that founded it. On 7 March 2004 the first distillate of the reborn Glengyle came out of the stills, exactly 16 years ago.
